GINGIVITIS

Gingivitis is a disease associated with bleeding, swelling and inflammation of the gums, tooth pain that intensifies if in contact with cold or hot food, bad breath and loose tooth. Unfortunately, gingivitis is a very common condition that affects ¾ of the adult population over 34 years of age.
Gingivitis is caused by a build up of plaque that allows for bacteria to develop. If the plaque around the teeth and gums is not removed, it transforms in tartar (calculus) and the gums gradually retract off the teeth. As a result, the fixing apparatus of the teeth is loosened, which can progressively lead to the loss of teeth. A major role in this process is played by the food debris remaining in these areas, leading to the development of bacteria, which is a constant source for infections.
